Italian Flügelhorn (bass tuba) by Ludwig Zelweger–Roth of 1800

A Flügelhorn (or bass tuba) built by italian maker Ludwig Zelweger (the reseller was the Premiata Fabbrica Fernando Roth in Milan).

The austrian brass maker Ludwig Zelweger worked from 1840 up to 1875 in the north-western italian area of Biella (Piedmont). In that times so called Italian Risorgimento, Italy was governed by king Vittorio Emanuele II of the House of Savoy: his coat of arms was cut into this instrument, according to the custom of that age.

This Flügelhorn has three rotative valves, nowadays too it is called with the italian nickname “bombardino”, because of his rhythmical prevalent use in musical bands. The sound of the instrument here on sale is anyhow very soft and harmonious.

It can be played without repairs, its brass body presents only some little old tinnings, valves are perfect. I have not cleaned this brass instrument, so that it appears dark in the images below.

Dimensions (mm): lenght about 73, width about 25
