A rarest italian old book printed in Venice in the year 1518
The book was written in post-classical Latin.
Title:
Rubrice institutio - Carmina rubricarum primi libri institutionum imperialii domini Iustiniani Imperatoris serenissimi - Ru - XXVI
This book was printed and published in Venice on May 1518 by Gregorium de Gregoriis (publisher in Venice 1472-1536), as printed in the latest page: “impressum Venetiis per Gregorium de Gregoriis Anno Domini 1518 Mensis Maii”. I enphasized this text in the 2nd image.
The treated subject is the first part of the Roman canon of Eastern Emperor Justinian (Corpus iuris civilis). These laws were in force in Venice up to the Napoleonic reform.
The rare peculiarity of this edition is its dimensions: about 250 pages in only cm. 5 x 10 x 3,3 !!
It was surely printed as a sort of “pocket civil code” for lawyers of that times.
All pages are perfect, the parchment cover has only a little abrasion, as shown in the 1st image.
Price: 600 €
